Mini Gabled Dormer on Storage Building by Kloter Farms
So you’ve begun the intriguing process of picking out all of the different options for your new storage building and the designer that you are working with asks you “would you like to add a dormer”? The natural question for a customer is:
What are Dormer options for a Storage Building?
There are a few standard options that we here at Kloter Farms work with but as with most of our buildings, if you can dream it- we can build it.
In a different article we talked about the overall design process of an outdoor storage building. Check it out for more information.
Remember, many of our designs were inspired by customers like you and this is your masterpiece. So let your creativity be your guide for we are here to serve you!
1. Gabled Dormers-
According to This Old House, “Gabled dormers have a peak at the top and a roof that slopes downward on either side. This is the most common type of dormer. The design works well with a wide array of architectural styles…”
As you’ll see below, depending on your style and the particular need for space may determine how many you choose to add to your building.
2. Shed Dormer-
Again as defined by TOH– “A shed dormer has a roof that slopes in only one direction, toward the front. Many freestanding sheds have roofs that look similar, hence the name of this style of dormer.”
3. Extra Gables-
While not really a dormer as we would define one, we find that as architectural styles have shifted, we have to become more innovative with ways to allow more space and light into a structure. One of those ways is the extra gable.
Whether it’s a full gable or a partial as shown in the pictures below, we do our best to cater to your style and preferences.
As a note on the photo below, notice how the pergola breaks up what could feel as an imposing structure. Since it is two stories, a building like this in a setting like this could easily feel overwhelming. But because the face of it is visually broken up by an architectural element, it seems to nestle comfortably into the space.
Check out all of our pergola options here.
So as you can see, there are many options that are available when it comes to dormers. The fun part is that you don’t have to choose one of these.
Depending on your needs and style, many of these options can be modified to make the structure just for you. Come on in with your ideas and let us help you create the building of your dreams!
